A Ligne 1 in the larger of its two sizes, plated in rose gold and finished in a fine barleycorn guilloche that runs across the body in tight, even diagonals. Against that texture the polished panel at the front sits deliberately flat and quiet, giving the engraving and the flame wheel a clear space to sit rather than competing with the pattern. Under direct light the barleycorn breaks into hundreds of small points of reflection, while the smooth panel holds a single warm sheet of colour, and the contrast between the two finishes is really the point of the piece.

The wheel set into the latch is a flame adjustment, the feature that defines this version of the Ligne 1 and separates it from the earlier examples that had no such control. It lets you tune the flame from a low, steady point to something taller with a simple turn, rather than living with whatever the lighter gives you, and it is worth remembering that this arrangement of case and mechanism went on to set the proportions for the Ligne 1 and Ligne 2 models that followed it. In the hand it has the compact, square-edged density that this size of Ligne 1 is known for, built to sit in a jacket pocket rather than disappear into one.

It comes with its original box and papers, and it is in excellent condition, showing barely any sign of use against a guilloche finish that scratches easily if it is carried carelessly. The rose gold plating still carries real depth rather than the flatness that plating takes on once it has been handled for years. We have serviced it in our workshop, so it arrives gassed and ready to light rather than needing any attention before it earns its place in daily use.
