However, even though crucial parts may have been serviced/replaced, an older lighter may still leak gas over time, or miss a spark. These lighters have aged over decades, resulting in some internal wear that may have accumulated and will affect their performance, and there is nothing to be done about it. Just know that you are buying a vintage product, and it can happen that they may not perform as expected of a new lighter.

A Dunhill Rollagas from the 1980s in silver plating, finished in the engine-turned barleycorn pattern that covers the body in tight, repeating diagonals. It catches the light in a way a plain polished surface cannot, breaking any reflection into a fine texture rather than a single sheen, and the case shape keeps to Dunhill’s rectangular profile with the roller set along one edge.
The roller is the reason the Rollagas still has a following. Rather than a flint wheel struck with the thumb, the lighter is lit by rolling a knurled cylinder set into the body, a single smooth action that both sparks and releases the gas and does so with almost none of the mechanical clatter of a standard lighter. Butane was the point of the design from the outset, replacing petrol fuel and the smell that came with it, and the gas control valve lets the flame be set rather than left to chance. It is a mechanism built for daily use rather than display, and it is why so many of these have stayed in service for decades.
This example is in excellent condition, showing very little sign of use and presenting close to how it left the shop. It comes complete with its original Dunhill box and papers, a nice addition for anyone building a proper collection rather than simply buying a lighter to carry. It has been fully serviced in our workshop and is ready to fill and use, the roller turning as readily as it would have new.
