A small Ligne 2 from the 1980s, dressed in Dupont’s Chinese lacquer over a slim, rectangular body that sits close to the hand. The green surface here reads dark and glassy, taking on a warmth wherever it catches the light, and the gold-toned fittings along the top edge stay crisp against it rather than fading into the colour. This is the smaller of the two Ligne 2 sizes, cut down enough to disappear into a pocket without the bulk of the standard version.
The Ligne 2 followed the Ligne 1 as Dupont’s flagship model, and the small size keeps everything that made the line worth having while shaving the dimensions down for easier daily carry, especially for anyone who finds the large version a stretch to hold comfortably. Flame adjustment sits on the base rather than at the latch, worked through a small screw beside the refill port, so filling and tuning the flame stay separate operations and neither interferes with the other. Opening the cap gives the sharp, ringing note collectors listen for, the ping, or cling, that the model is known for, and which carries further than you would expect from something this size.
This one is in excellent condition, showing only the faintest signs that it has ever left a drawer, and the lacquer and plating both present close to how they would have looked new. It comes complete with its original Dupont box and papers, which is exactly as a piece from this era should arrive.
