However, even though crucial parts may have been serviced/replaced, an older lighter may still leak gas over time, or miss a spark. These lighters have aged over decades, resulting in some internal wear that may have accumulated and will affect their performance, and there is nothing to be done about it. Just know that you are buying a vintage product, and it can happen that they may not perform as expected of a new lighter.

This Ligne 2 belongs to Dupont’s Wild West edition, and the burr panel set into the lid is the first thing the eye goes to: a warm, mottled amber that sits proud of the surrounding metal like an inlay rather than a lacquer fill. Around it the palladium-finished body carries dense scrollwork, hand-chased rather than printed, running in bands across the lid and down the sides and broken by small framed panels of ornament at the corners. It is a busier, more worked surface than the plain Ligne 2 ever carries, and the contrast between the engraved metal and the smooth burr panel is the point of the piece.
The Wild West edition takes its theme from the frontier, and that is reflected here less in any single image than in the density of the engraving itself, closer to the chasing found on a fine firearm than to the lighter’s usual clean lines. Dupont reserved this level of hand engraving for a limited run, paired with the inset burr panel as the one area of calm among the ornament. Underneath the decoration it is still a Ligne 2, with the twin cams on the base adjusting flame height and gas flow and the lever striking the familiar ping as the lid snaps open, a sound this model is known for across the entire range.
This example is in excellent condition, showing very little sign of use and presenting close to how it left Dupont. It comes without its original box or papers, so what you see is the lighter alone. It has been serviced in our workshop and is ready to fill and use, which on a piece this heavily worked is also the best way to see the engraving catch the light as it is turned in the hand.
