This is an S.T. Dupont Gatsby from the 1980s, finished in red lacquer with the double gadroon pattern running the length of both faces. The ribbing gives the lacquer a rhythm as it turns in the light, the colour deepening in each groove and lifting again on the ridge beside it, and the base carries a small window of natural wood set into the gold that breaks up the red without competing with it.

The Gatsby takes its mechanics and dimensions from the small Ligne 2, though the cap sits slightly thicker over the body than the Ligne 2 does, giving it a squarer, more compact feel in the hand. Lift the cap and it delivers the same ping on opening that the Ligne 2 is known for, and closing it is just as decisive. On the base you will find the two ports common to the line, one for refilling and one for adjusting the flame, so the lighter can be tuned to taste rather than left as it comes.

This example is new old stock, meaning it has never been used since it left the factory, and it presents accordingly. The original box and papers are included, so it comes complete exactly as it would have been sold new. It has still been through our workshop as a matter of course, and it is ready to fill and use, though there would be nothing to stop you keeping it exactly as it is.
