A small Ligne 1 in solid 18k gold, made in the 1970s, with fine linear ribbing running the full length of the case. The lines catch light evenly across the body, giving the gold a soft horizontal grain rather than a flat shine, and the case has the compact, upright proportions of the Petit size, built to sit closed in the hand rather than sprawl across it.

This is a Briquet Reglable, the version of the Ligne 1 that introduced a flame adjustment wheel set into the latch, a feature the earlier Ligne 1 did not have. It is a small addition but it changed the model permanently, since the proportions worked out for the BR went on to shape every Ligne 1 and Ligne 2 that followed. The latch itself is what defines the daily handling of the lighter: a firm press to release the cap, then the strike, in the same two-part action that has stayed with the line since.

There is a repair worth knowing before you buy. An engraving was previously removed from the cap, and the polishing that took it off has left the joints thin enough that you can now see the edge where the front panel meets the top and side of the cap. It in the photographs. The condition is graded fair, reflecting this and the general wear a gold lighter of this age carries after decades of genuine use. It comes without its original box or papers. It has been fully serviced in our workshop and is ready to fill and use.
