Vintage Silver Plated Cartier Pentagon Lighter in Box 1970s

This Cartier Pentagon from the 1970s is silver plated and finished in a diamond guilloché pattern that runs across each of its five facets. Rather than the single curved surface of the oval Les Must, the case is built from distinct flat planes meeting at sharp angles, and each one catches the light on its own rather than as part of one continuous sweep. The effect changes as the lighter turns in the hand, with the engine-turned lattice flashing differently from facet to facet.

The faceted case is the defining idea of the Pentagon, a deliberate departure from the rounded case it shares its mechanism with. That underlying mechanism traces back to the lighter Robert Hocq designed for Silver Match in 1968, later licensed to Cartier and built into the founding object of the Les Must line. Here it sits inside a five-sided body instead of an oval one, so the same reliable striking action is wrapped in a shape that behaves quite differently on a desk or in the hand, throwing light outward in facets rather than along a single curved edge.

This example is in great condition, showing only the light wear you would expect of a lighter of this age that has been kept with care rather than used hard. The original Cartier box is included, and the silver plating still carries the crisp definition of the guilloché pattern across every facet. It has been serviced in our workshop and is ready to fill and use, whether that means a place on a desk or a return to daily carry.
