A small Ligne 2 from the 1980s in black lacquer, built to the slimmer profile that set this generation apart from the lighter that came before it. Black is the colour that shows the lacquer process at its plainest: no pattern to hide behind, just depth and a smooth, even surface running the length of the body down to the base. In the smaller size, it sits neatly in the hand rather than demanding attention, which is a large part of why this format found such a following as a lighter to carry rather than display.
The mechanism was reworked for this generation, with flame adjustment moved to a screw on the base rather than built into the latch, and two ports underneath to handle refilling and adjustment separately. That rework also tuned the cap to give a sharper note on opening, the ping, or cling, that collectors listen for and that became this model’s signature. It is a small ritual built into daily use, and one reason the Ligne 2 became Dupont’s standard-bearer rather than just another model in the line.
This particular lighter comes with its original box and papers, which is worth having on a piece of this age. The lacquer itself has sustained damage, with areas of loss and chipping visible across the body, and we would point you to the photographs to see exactly where and how much before you buy.
