IMCO is one of the oldest pocket lighter manufacturers in history. Julius Meister founded in 1907 the Austrian button and metal goods factory, Julius Meister & Co (JMCO). In 1918, After the first world war, they began producing petrol lighters. The busniss was a success and IMCO made millions of lighters until 2012. The IMCO Silby 4800 was first introduced in 1938. It was named in honor of shareholder Hans Silberknopf, son of shareholder Dr. Bernhard Silberknopf. Bernhard Silberknopf was shareholder With Julius Meister since March 1911. His son Hans ended his life on the 13th of April 1938, a month after Germany annexed Austria.

This lighter features an automatic side-push action to open and light the lighter. The fuel tank can be withdrawn from the lighter after being ignited, so it’s easier to light a (tobacco) pipe or use it as a candle. There were many variations in patterns and colours. this lighter features a green Art deco style finish.
